My Opinion Monday - Hail to the NO!

First, you must watch this:

Now, ask yourself this question, "Who needs douche more? Me (as in you sweetie) or the (presumably male) marketing team behind this ad?"

If you answered you, by all means, get down to your local Wally-World and get yourselves some Summer's Eve...if you answered the what I imagine to be male marketing team that put this together, congrats, we officially have the same opinion today! I'd do a giveaway but Summer's Eve hasn't seen this post yet so they haven't contacted me with free samples....

I just don't understand this ad and other lady product commercials. Seriously, only females are using them, we were taught in 6th grade what we need them for and wouldn't you know, have been using them out of necessity since then. It's awkward enough to have to deal with our issues, it's even more awkward standing in the aisle looking at these products wondering which scent we want to smell like for the next 4 weeks and even more awkward having to watch these commercials with our dad.

If we could just keep these commercials simple with depictions of wild nights out, throwing on dirty undies because we haven't done laundry in a while and perhaps a random hook up here and there and perhaps only placed during "Extreme Couponers" or a Lifetime movie, that would be super.

Just trust me marketing geniuses, we don't need a commercial essentially saying our va-jay-jay (thanks OpraaHHHH) makes this world go 'round, we're pretty much in the know since we have one and all. Good try though. Maybe you can get Snooki and the Jersey Shore girls (watch that) next time ...they're the ones sweating, hooking up and needing some refreshing, no? I think I'm onto something here...you're welcome :)

The house before we made it way more awesome!

I was going to put these in a nice little table for you, but realized that the HTML code option didn't allow me to pick pictures I'd already waited 5 minutes for to upload, so you'll just get a running stream of photos.

Hopefully your computer can handle all of this....

The living room with the first purchase after he signed for the house, a $25 shell chair from, where else, Goodwill.

The dining room, complete with our $1.00 work table from the Goodwill outlet and the $1.00 broom from the Dollar Tree

Built in hutch in the dining room.

View looking from the dining room to what is now the "office wall"

The guest room...or my closet, however you want to look at it

Master bedroom, being taken over my country chic...

The backyard and humungo deck. Our yard goes back to the other house, 3 lots for this neighborhood.

The bathroom, which is going to be getting a much needed makeover  this fall!

Our big tree, thank goodness Tyler trimmed this one so the neighbor kids don't try to climb it and break their necks...

Front of the house, with a reflection of the neighbors house, these bushes are now gone...

And so are these bushes...they're all laying underneath the back tree...

Our first dinner in the new place...we picked up those wine glasses from the Dollar Tree, you can't beat that!

If I were blonde...

And had long, plastic hair, this is what I would look like. You like?

I can't say I had anymore fun being a blonde...

I still drank cheap champagne!
It was not a hit with the bf, he immediately told me to take it off when he saw me...maybe he's just too use to saying that when he sees me? I don't know. I kind of liked it. Taylor Swift was in town that weekend so I almost felt like I could have passed for her since I was riding around in a limo and hitting up Uncle Bucks and all...

Okay okay, enough bitching..how about some before and afters?

I know, this blog has turned into just my opinion. Well so-rry for being so busy with finishing up projects that all you get is my opinion.

So let me show you what has been keeping me sooooooooooooo busy....

Oh wait, wrong picture....let me try this again...the dresser pictures this time please:
Purchased for $9.99 at Goodwill, all sorts of ugly blue...

Then we decided red, which was a mistake....

After said blue and red (and some brown) were removed...

don't you have flowers on your dresser?

I even bought some glass knobs to play up the "shabby chic" (I sound so old saying that!) look. See:

I can always paint over it if I end up deciding I don't like the look of it. I guess this is the country part of my "Eclectic-Contemporary-County" style I have going on...

Now I just have to find something a little more masculine to put on his side of the bed. I have an idea, but I'm going to save that for another blog. It's quite amazing I think, but I won't be able to do it, so I'll have to send it out for completion. One thing at a time...

And after this weekend, I can't WAIT to show you the before and after picture of the garage - you remember the before picture don't you?

My Opinion Monday - It's not me, it's the sterotype...

On my way home from work tonight, I was behind a very nice SUV that was straddling the white line for much of the drive. Swerving in and out between driving like a normal, trained driver to a text crazed teenager. I was so annoyed.  I immediately figured it was some soccer mom with batty kids in the back trying to text her husband asking him why they ever decided to have kids in the first place...

As we approached a stop light, I was going to be heading left and she was going straight. (Yes, I assumed it was a woman, we all know we're less than stellar drivers...I have places to go, please get out of my way I need to get there...that's my mentality and I can't imagine that anyone else differs from me....). So as I slowed to stop I practically broke my neck trying to give this person the stare down, the "Don't text and drive you idiot" look.

Nevermind, she's Asian. According to sterotype, they're notoriously bad drivers so I can't be mad at her, it's just her way....

But seriously ladies, don't text and drive...I don't want to eventually be lumped into a sterotype that says I drive bad AND text and drive...save that one for the teenagers!

My Opinion Monday - I'm that old lady...

There's just something about neighbor kids playing in my yard that gets me...I remind myself of the old lady in the Paper Boy video game (regular Nintendo, you all know what I'm talking about right??) that use to chase you off her lawn. I think she came out with a knife, or maybe that's what my brother told me anyways.

A few years ago when I live in the 'burbs (ugh, I hope I never live in those again) there were kids in every house around. The neighbors to one side use to throw their trash into the backyard - like old CD's and beer boxes or whatever else else the kids could find. Then the kids across the street would find their way to our front yard. Oh hey, how about you play in your own yard? I even yelled "get out of my yard" to a kid one day. I drove away thinking "uh, I'm that old lady!" ..but I was only 23 at the time.

So I now live in a small neighborhood with a pack of kids in one house just caddy corner from us. They were at the park yesterday riding their bikes on the tennis courts after somehow getting their bike through the actual opening. It's set up so that anyone wider than 12 inches would have troubles maneuvering the corner. As we tried to play tennis, he found it necessary to ride his bike all about both courts. I finally said polietly, "you're going to have to stay on that side of the court, we're trying to play here..." He listened and ran off into the woods with a PVC pipe that I imagine he and the rest of the pack used to beat the crap out of each other...

And then today, I'm out grilling dinner and that damn kid is riding his bike in the backyard. Mind you, there is a dead end street that he lives on, so he has no reason (other than being a little shit) to be in the backyard. He picked up a few branches and rode off with them, only dropping one back on the yard and looking and smiling at me the whole time.

I don't have huge issues with kids, I have issues with disrespectful kids. You have your own damn yard to play in, if you MUST venture into ours, at least ask us if it's okay. I'm just glad that Tyler trimmed the tree this weekend - no doubt he'd climb to the top, jump off and his parents sue us for their kids stupidity.

Kids these days....have some respect for your elders, even if they are only 27!

D(ecorating) Day...

After several hours of drilling, screwing, and nailing - with power tools people, get your head out of the gutter.... - I finished some decorating. This wall just kind of came together, and came together nicely I think. I'll let you be the judge...

I call it Eclectic-Contemporary-Country
Most of the items were either bought at Goodwill, from Craigslist or given to us so this was a really inexpensive day...besides the trip to Wal-Mart and Ace, again.

The most expensive item is the clock - $50 from Target but I saw it one day while I was killing some time before a hair appointment, and after only buying Goodwill for the weeks leading up to that day, I wasn't sure I wanted to spend $50 for a clock. But I did. And I'm glad I did.

Let's see what else we have here:
Turquoise E - from Etsy, Ohiopicker - $40
Old school rotary phone - $1.19/lb from the Goodwill outlet
Bulletin board - $2.99 at Goodwill
3 colored frames - $2.00 total from Exceptional Opportunities in Algona, I painted them with paint we had
Eiffel Tower lamp - $4.99 at Goodwill
White shelf - $2.99 at Goodwill
All other shelves and file cabinet - FREE - given to us by Tyler's brother as they moved to New Jersey (fist pump!)
Desk - $20 from Craigslist - lady wanted $30 but I took 2 20's and she didn't have change...SCORE!
Big white bowl - $3.00 from Exceptional Opportunities in Algona
Chair - $4.99 from Goodwill - needs some recovering but I still think it looks pretty good.

So there you have it. I didn't add it up, I never do.

The other living room wall is coming together, just not as well as this did today. I need a few more items and then it'll be done. Work in progress people, I can't do it all at once so please be patient.

....to be continued....

Ahh progress...

Yes, it is Friday night and yes, I am at home. But in my defense, I got way too drunk last night and suffered an 8 hour hangover today. Not living with Val and seeing her only twice this week (both ending in margarita's) may lead to some sort of alcoholism. We've watched enough Intervention to know what to do to shake the addiction though.

Dammit though, I deserve a night with the house to myself. We went to the bar for dinner and I sipped a Moscow Mule while the bf tried really hard to finish an Old Fashioned. Two seconds before he ordered it he told me he wasn't going to. For some reason he remembers them being delicious. That reason would have been because he was really drunk before he started drinking them one night so anything was possible.

After dinner we made a quick stop at Ace, our friendly neighborhood store. Although overpriced, it is only right around the corner from the bar, so it was on our way. When I got back home, I started work on all this:

My unfinished craft room is getting a workout tonight...
I know all this doesn't look like much yet, but by tomorrow evening, I'll have some (I hope) pretty cool cell phone pictures to post. I'm dedicating much of my day tomorrow to decorating. And I couldn't be more excited or stressed about it. I'm fairly indecisive, so putting holes in the walls only to hang something and think I'd like it better elsewhere just sounds like a rough Saturday. Scratch that, I've had worse.

Found something that made me go "what the?" today....

As I was trolling Craiglist for furniture that I don't have room for, I came across this post. For those that aren't able to follow links from websites because your parents have filters set and you can't figure out how to remove them, here is the post:

Huge Lovesac (The Big One) - $800 (West Des Moines)

I bought this last year and have loved owning it. The ONLY reason I'm getting rid of it is I'm moving to a new place and can't find any place to put it. There is nothing wrong with it, and it has always been taken care of (no spills etc). Because of the nature of the material, it's actually more comfortable then it was when I bought it. It comes with a cover (Espresso Plush, comparable to the Beaver Phur in the link below), two Balls (also Espresso Plush) and a traveling cover, which protects the sac when you're moving it and also has straps with allow you to shrink the size so it's easier to move. I've included a link to the lovesac site below showing a comparable package.

http://www.lovesac.com/sacs/bigone/the-bigone-with-beaver-phur-cover.html
I clicked to the link to see how much these retail for: $1119! Oh my gawd kid, are you serious? You paid over ONE THOUSAND dollars for a BEAN BAG CHAIR?? Yeah yeah, it's seats 3 adults, but so does my new couch and it was cheaper (even cheaper than what the website says) than what you're trying to resell this stupid thing for! We purchased the matching chair so we could seat 4 people comfortably and we still spent less than you did on this!

I just want to write to this seller "so you can afford an $1100 bean bag chair but you can't afford a place big enough to actually use it? interesting...." I tell you what, if you want a bean bag big enough to seat you and two of your closest friends (which, I'm not sharing a bean bag with anyone, it's too damn hot!) I'll take you to Goodwill and you can buy 3, for about $4.99 each then you can give me the left over $1104 and we'll just call that my "finders fee" - sound good?

I know I've bought some really ridiculous items before, but I've never paid that much money for one item (besides the obvious car, kitchen, dental work)...have you?
